The first tip for public speaking is that we should always analyze the student’s competence. This starts with a simple observation of the student’s voice, body posture, and facial expressions. We want to make sure that they are comfortable enough in front of the class and they present themselves correctly.

Once we have assessed the student’s ability to present themselves correctly, we can move on to the next step. We should sit back and listen to the speech that the student will be giving. Then we should be able to identify the areas where they are lacking in their presentation.

The first area will be timing. Any student that will be delivering a speech will be nervous. You will want to speak slowly and deliberately. Make sure that your speech is not too long.

Once we have identified the need for time and presentation control, we need to keep in mind that we want to maintain the audience’s interest. Use humor in your speech. But make sure that it’s only a light joke and not a cutesy one.

After that, we need to make sure that the student is comfortable. One way to do this is to go ahead and have them sign a few things. But instead of doing this once, like I did, just let them do it on a regular basis.
