What are the Leadership Qualities in Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi is often hailed as the father of non-violence. His philosophy embodied the principles of non-violence. His call for non-violence touched people from all walks of life. His ideals are often considered to be “non-violent”.

Non-violence is a state of mind. Gandhi had an acute awareness of others and the power of non-violence. He believed that without helping others, one cannot develop his inner strength to develop a moral character. This theory of development helps us realize that the way to get success is not by the initial successes but by the continuous development of an individual’s inner strength. He advocated the education of the weak.

Non-violence is not a religion or a spiritual path. Gandhi knew that the practices of non-violence can be used to bring about change. Non-violence is possible in a real life situation. This is possible because Gandhi had this wisdom and power within him.

The second important aspect is personal power. Gandhi did not believe in the practice of what he preached. He realised that it is the practise of the principles of non-violence that is important. He realised that the non-violent man is more powerful than the one who is destructive.

Gandhi had many core values. These were:

– Equality, this was the basic principle of non-violence. Gandhi’s philosophy of equality was based on the equality between the rich and the poor. In fact, it was a profound belief of Gandhi’s that the rich must be helped to help themselves.

– Justice, which is another fundamental of Gandhi’s philosophy. This means that the rich and the poor should be treated equally, that there should be no discrimination and that the rich should support the poor.

– Restraint, which means that the rich should not have all the fun. It also means that they should be guided by the principle of Restraint. It was necessary for Gandhi to keep himself in control and this meant that he had to ensure that he did not get carried away by his success and fall into the trap of non-violence.

– Truth, which means that one must not take the non-violent principle to the extent of hypocrisy. Gandhi had to realise that the principle of non-violence is not easy to apply when the rich were not doing well.

– Responsibility, which means that one should know where his responsibility ends and where it begins. Gandhi recognised that he could only advocate non-violence if he did not spread his influence beyond the borders of India.

– Internal unity, which means that one should be able to learn and understand the principles of non-violence. The best way to do this is to read and understand books written by others.

Mahatma Gandhi had many leadership qualities. He believed in development and therefore taught that you should not remain the same. He had a powerful mental and spiritual foundation and therefore helped many.
